From the President’s Desk
Dear Members,
I begin with a sincere ‘thank-you’ to all those who have been so generous to our organization this past year. We need to continually grasp the truism that, the cause of defending life holds a pre-eminent place among the many good causes that one can support. Ours is the cause of defending the most helpless, giving voice to those who cannot speak for themselves. This is challenging work as it is at its root, a spiritual battle for souls. Since we face great opposition, we must be mindful that without the help of God, we are powerless. Our best and most needed weapon is prayer. I humbly ask for a doubling of your prayer support this year, not only for Cambridge Right to Life but for all pro-life workers across Canada. I do believe that God will answer our constant and heartfelt prayers, that ours may be one day be a just society.

Annual General Meeting Report
Due to inclement weather, our scheduled guest speaker, Theresa Matters, was unable to be present. After the business and committee reports were presented, members and guests watched a DVD produced by Canadian country artist Lorraine Hartsook. The title song ‘Bring that child to me’, was a poignant reminder that adoption is the loving option that many women have when faced with an unplanned pregnancy. Unable to conceive, the artist and her husband tell of their heartache and how adopting two children was, for them, a true blessing. If you would like to view the DVD, it is available at our office. The draw for the Walk For Life prizes, was presided over by Norb Oberle. This year, instead of a bike, the grand prize was $125.00 and the lucky winner was Louisa Smith. Thanks to all who donated prizes and made this a very pleasant evening.
PRO-LIFE LEGISLATION IN THE WORKS
A Parliamentary subcommittee has ruled ‘votable’, ‘The Unborn Victims of Crime Act’, introduced by Conservative MP Ken Epp, meaning that it will be able to come before the full House of Commons for a vote. This is good news for the pro-life community, and we urge you to contact your MP to encourage him or her to support the bill. If passed, the law would allow criminal charges to be laid in the death or injury of an unborn child when the child's mother is the victim of a violent crime. We urge our members to contact our MP by phone or by writing a letter asking him to support this bill C-484. A personal letter or contact are the most efficacious ways for a voter to get their point of view across.
Please contact our MP, Mr. Gary Goodyear, 1425 Bishop St. N., Unit 3, Cambridge, ON N1R 6J9.

WONDERFUL STEM CELL BREAKTHROUGH
Two separate research teams in the U.S. and in Japan have shown that it is possible to create embryo-like stem cells by genetically "reprogramming" ordinary adult skin cells. Many researchers, have said that the breakthrough will obviate the need for further cloning and embryo experimentation. Other scientists bemoan this latest find, saying that it could “stifle” science. Let us pray that no more human embryos will be used for research and that sanity will prevail, rather than greed for scientific research funding.
Synopsis of the ‘REACHING MINDS THROUGH MEDIA’ REPORT 2007 - from Alliance For Life Ontario
Contrary to what the politicians, media and abortion advocates would have us believe, it appears from recent polling in Ontario, that the issue of abortion has not achieved consensus amongst the public. Women access the 1-800-665-0570 help line in greater numbers while the commercials are being aired. Of the people who saw the pro-life TV ads, 82% agreed that the commercials made them think about the value of life. Plans are being made by Alliance For Life Ontario for more commercials to run in 2009. These commercials are truly the means for savings the lives of many babies and for sparing women the pain of an abortion.
