LATEST ABORTION STATISTICS ~ 2006
Statistics Canada released in August, the statistics for induced abortion in Canada. The results are heartbreaking… Despite continued pro-life efforts, the number of induced abortions in Canada has increased to 120,000 in 2006. Ontario is listing 33,202, which is actually a decrease of 4,907 from the year 2002. Our Media campaign is making a difference in Ontario, but our work is far from done.
From the President’s Desk
Dear Members,
I was truly disheartened when I saw the latest abortion statistics from Stats Canada. I am left wondering: “Why the increase in abortions”? Pro-life groups across Canada and specifically in Ontario, have been working diligently to bring the message to the public, that all human life is precious from the moment of conception, so why the increase? One likely reason is the exponential proliferation of increase in the ways human life is denigrated in the mass media, especially television. This leads to a desensitization of individual consciences, especially of vulnerable young women in their teens and early twenties, who as a consequence, are the ones having the highest number of abortions. Much prayer and persevering witness for human life is needed; let us continue to do both, until the killing of the innocent pre-born is no more.

Walk For Life
Thank-you to all the sponsors of this year’s annual Walk For life and especially the following who sponsored our ad in the newspaper: HOWIE SCHMIDT REALTY INC. (Terri Vincent), GOAD & GOAD LAWYERS, KAY D’ARCY REALTY (Peter D’Arcy), ST. GREGORY CWL, ST. AMBROSE LADIES GROUP, ST. CLEMENT CHURCH. And thank you to all of our members who pledged monies and those who sponsored walkers. THANKS TO ALL WHO WALKED (even a spry 73 yr. old!) and to all who helped out on that day! Walkers, please remember to collect your pledges and send them in to our office as soon as possible.
Life Chain
This peaceful and prayerful, Canada-wide, public witness to the sanctity of unborn life was held on Sunday, Oct. 4.on Hespeler Rd. We counted about 80 or so folks, young and not-so-young (and 6 good Religious Sisters) who, for one hour, prayerfully witnessed for the unborn babies and their moms.
Rockton’s World Fair
With the help of our volunteers, the educational display was set up at the Rockton Fair. Many more people visited our booth, being attracted by the continuous running video display ‘The Truth Booth Jr’. We know by the many comments, that it provided amazing images that many had never seen before. A big ‘THANK-YOU!’ to the volunteers who staffed the booth.
Religious Christmas Cards & Cakes
Cards are packaged 10 per box with a Scripture verse inside. They cost $7.50 per box or three boxes for $20.00. Also being sold are deluxe fruitcakes, $15.00 for the 1.7lb rectangular cake and $25.00 for the round 2.5lb cake in a tin container. As in previous years, these items will be available at our Annual General Meeting or by calling our office. This annual fundraiser is in support of The Euthanasia Prevention Coalition and Campaign Life Coalition.

MAIL FROM SOME OF OUR PRO-LIFE COLLEAGUES
MEDICAL STUDENTS FOR LIFE - by Thomas Bouchard, med student, Calgary

Thanks to the support of Canadian Physicians For Life and their Med Students’ Forum, medical students were able to initiate a new pro-life club at the University of Calgary in 2008. Please pray for these outstanding med students, who have the courage to stand up for the most vulnerable under their care.
CANADIAN PHYSICIANS FOR LIFE - from Dr. Will Johnston, President

In a recent letter to our office, Canadian Physicians for Life tell us the following:
“Dear colleague,
We are using your donations to help contain the ‘euthanasia pandemic’. We continue to be alert to the ambitions of the Ontario Human Rights Commission, and the other HRCs across Canada, to issue edicts to Colleges of Physicians and Surgeons. A consensus is building that HRCs will need to be restricted to adjudicating obvious abuses of fairness, and not be used to bully selected target groups, including pro-life physicians. The Medical Student Forum (Calgary, this coming November) is being prepared. Thank-you from the bottom of my heart for making this all possible. Warmest regards.
NATIONAL HOTLINE 1-800-665-0570 : Quick Update – by Juergen Severloh, , Director, Crisis Pregnancy Centre of Winnipeg and National Hotline Centre
“Thank-you for your continued prayers and love. The ministry of ‘loving life from the inside out’ continues online, 24 hours a day. These are the numbers so far for the years 2000-2007: 8,000 client calls * 37,000 minutes-on-line. Life at the Crisis Pregnancy Centre continues to be filled with the miracles of God; praise be to Him. We are continuing to connect women with the help they need.
The world has changed, some of it is good; much of it is disturbing and difficult to cope with; let us remember to keep each other strong for the sake of the Kingdom and the children. Please do see if there are any coins in the coffers to pass along to us so that we can maintain our love for our client-friends.
Peace * Love * and Contentment * To * You.”
Good news locally:
Tania Rosario, a teacher at Monsignor Doyle High School, along with some of her colleagues, is endeavoring to start a pro-life club among students this fall. Please pray for all teachers, students and for the success of this club. Young people need to hear and take to heart the pro-life message; their actions are making a difference.
A new face at the office
We welcome Carmen De Sousa to her new job as office coordinator, starting in September. Carmen has a soft spot in her heart for the pro-life cause. Let us welcome Carmen to her new post, confident that she will do her utmost to keep the office running as smoothly as ever.
A heartfelt ‘THANK-YOU’ to Maria Chaves, for all her hard work as our office co-ordinator over the past 8 years. She did a terrific job!
Changes to our Board
A warm ‘thank-you’ to Norb Oberle for his many years of dedication to Cambridge Right to Life, especially helping with the Walk For Life and the prizes for the young people. Norb is retiring from the Board this year.
The ‘Truth Booth Junior’ – “Look mom, a baby!”

The Truth Booth Junior uses a 15" digital photo frame to show a three minute video, on the development of the unborn child, on a continual loop. It can be mounted on a wall or placed on a table top. It is ideal for use in classrooms, youth group presentations, crisis pregnancy centre waiting rooms, at a conference or convention booth. If you would like to borrow the ‘Truth Booth Junior’ for your classroom or event, please call the office. Our sincere ‘THANK-YOU!’ to a generous donor who made this acquisition possible.
The Morning After Pill – Plan B

In May, Canada’s National Association of Pharmacy Regulatory Authorities, announced that the abortifacient morning-after-pills, among them Plan-B, are being sold over the counter, even to young girls, without a doctor’s prescription. One of the controversies surrounding MAP is its potential to prevent a human embryo from implanting in the uterus, thus killing the baby. "The common description of the MAP as emergency contraception fails to accurately describe its possible abortifacient action and is misleading the public," Dr. Johnston said.
"The confusion is aggravated by the current attempt to re-define pregnancy as occurring after implantation. It is a basic fact of human embryology that life begins at fertilization. A woman requesting MAP must be told that this drug may destroy a newly conceived human being--a human embryo--so that she can make an informed decision. How easy is it for a pharmacist to give her this critical information with shoppers milling about?" Having access to these ‘home abortion kits’, will make it virtually impossible to ascertain how many babies are actually being aborted, since there is no medical record.
